According to NPR, 30% of Americans overall express some reluctance, the reasons for this may differ. Particularly concerning is the fact that there are sharp partisan differences. Among those who said they supported President Trump in the 2020 election, 47% said that they will not register to receive the vaccine, expressing their concern about its safety and effectiveness.
Research shows the vaccine is highly effective at preventing severe disease and spread, but sadly, we see misleading information especially on social media spreading and sowing the seeds of mistrust and polarization.
Wanting to have more information and being cautious is a good thing. But we ought not to let misinformation and partisanship slow our efforts and put others in danger. As Christians, whether we wear mask, whether we get the vaccine, we do it for the Lord. We do it because we care for our neighbor, particularly the weak and the vulnerable among us, as well as ourselves.
So today, I encourage you to join me in finding accurate information, addressing misinformation, and advocating for equity in vaccine distribution. (https://getvaccineanswers.org/)
I am thankful for the vaccine.
