Kang, Joyce. Be Fed and Feed. 2021, oil on canvas. Collection of the Hans, Houlton, ME.
What is victory?
Victory is to do no harm.
It is to guard my lips and my heart,
so that I may not wound another child of God;
whether it's a little thing,
like someone cutting me off in traffic,
or the large offense,
like considering me less than a child of God.
It is to lay aside my desire to get even,
when someone did so wrong to me.
What is victory?
Victory is to do good.
It is to consider everyone God's beloved and do good,
even those who are ungrateful and unloving.
It is to do good anyway
even when I am accused and misconstrued,
or even when others take credit
for what I have poured into my energy.
What is victory?
Victory is to stay in love with God.
It is to know that I can do all this
only when I abide in God's love.
As long as I abide,
I can and will
always trust, always hope, always persevere.
In God's love
I fight from victory, not for victory.
